GLENSTAL ABBEY
Glenstal Abbey is a Benedictine monastery of the Congregation of the Annunciation located in Murroe, County Limerick. It is dedicated to Saint Joseph and Saint Columba. The current abbot of the monastery is Dom Patrick Hederman OSB. The abbey is located in and beside Glenstal Castle, a Normanesque castle built by the Barrington family.
The picturesque grounds include lakes, forests and an old walled, terraced garden which features a "bible garden".
The monastery runs an all-boys boarding secondary school on its grounds, Glenstal Abbey School, home to approximately two hundred students.

Glenstal is a seven-day boarding school for boys, run by the Benedictine monks of Glenstal Abbey in County Limerick, Ireland. The fact that the school is associated with a living monastic community gives it a very special flavour. Glenstal is a place where a community of monks lives and gathers several times a day to praise God and hear his word, attentive for the promptings of the Holy Spirit. We seek to allow that life of prayer to shape the life of the school too.
We see ourselves as partners with parents in forming, guiding and nurturing our students, in order to develop their talents and gifts and so grow into what God has called them to be. We take justifiable pride in the excellence of the academic education, extra-curricular opportunities and pastoral care which we provide.
In browsing this website, it is my hope that you will understand and appreciate the nature of our school and the type of education we provide. I hope that you like what you find here.

A directed retreat provides the private retreat experience plus regular one-to-one conversation with a spiritual director.
